A2N-Uganda empowers rural communities to make informed decisions Print E-mail
20 Nov 2006
With support from UNDP/Capacity 2015, A2N-Uganda has launched the Local-Level Integrated Information Systems (LIIS) project in order to enable rural communities to make rational choices critical for them to manage their own development and to address the MDGs, including poverty eradication interventions from a well informed basis.

The information revolution is often said to be Africa's last chance to catch up with the developed continents. Although information related to agriculture and other livelihood skills is available in Uganda, it is out of reach for the rural communities as it is scattered among the various stakeholders. Farmers need information that is packaged to meet their need for information on agriculture and agricultural development as well as other livelihood aspects such as health, gender and the environment. In light of these issues, A2N-Uganda, through the LIIS project aims to satisfy these needs through facilitating and setting up systems whereby communities can widely communicate, exchange, and broadcast their local knowledge; adapt global knowledge for their own local use as well as strengthening the capacities of local communities and organizations to create, communicate and exchange their knowledge and experiences through the use of ICT-based systems. This project will initially be for 1 year and will empower communities in the districts of Kabale, Tororo and Kamuli.
